R&B songstress Ashanti lands at No. 6 with "The Declaration" (Universal Motown), shifting a disappointing 86,000. Her last studio effort, 2005's "Concrete Rose," shifted 254,000 during Christmas week 2004.
This honestly comes as no surprise to me, although she delivered a stellar album there were a few problems in her plan, first off she chose to release a strictly urban single, which in my opinion is now the recipe for disaster at this stage in the music industry, secondly a label insider told me that Universal shipped out as little as 150 thousand copies, which should have been more around the figures of 500 or 600 thousand since her last album sold over a quarter million copies the first week. I myself ended up having to order online, but none of the stores in my area had copies, which is ashamed, I'm still wondering if Irv had something to do with this. SMH.
