Album Review: Taylor Swift - 'Fearless'

With the commercial success of her triple-platinum self-titled debut release, which has scanned over 3.4 million units, thanks to stellar songs 'Tim McGraw', 'Our Song', 'Tears on My Guitar', among others. Taylor Swift is now poised with the typical questions:

Can she do it again? Will the sophomore slump reign once again over another the album?

The first single, 'Love Story', is a fairy tale inspired Cinderella themed track that unfolds out like a beautifully written romantic movie, plot, climax, and all. 'The Way I Loved You', is a fiery package track with loud, lean guitars and ascending to the dramatic chorus, that compliments her voice well.

'Forever and Always', is a traditional break-up jam, that were accustomed to from Taylor, this time taking aim at Joe Jonas (of the Jonas Brothers) and his apparent 27 seconds call to end their relationship.

'Change', a politically charged jam that aims to inspire as she chimes, "we'll stand up champions tonight", followed by a singsong chorus of "hallelujahs".

'Hey Stephen', is obviously a track about another one of the singer's crushes, as she poises the question: "All those other girls, well, they're beautiful, but would they write a song for you?"

The title track, 'Fearless', 'You're Not Sorry', and 'Tell Me Why', are among the other standouts.

The problems aren't the normal unbearable songs, as the set includes none, but rather the lack of subject matter, as the singer sticks to her normal he did me wrong jams, also the amateurish lyrics placed with her fragile voice, furthermore the singer rarely matches any of the classic country jams her first album created.

Not a bad effort, in fact, overall its quite nice, but also proves why Carrie Underwood continues to reign.

3.5 out of 5
