IDOL RECAP: TOP 2 BATTLE FOR THE TITLE

Last night, Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery, the final two contestants on 'American Idol', performed for a chance at the coveted title. Recap below:

Top 2

ROUND 1: FAVORITE FROM THE SEASON

Scotty McCreery - "Gone"

Lauren Alaina - "Flat on the Floor"

Scotty was full of energy throughout his performance of "Gone" and although it was not as good as his initial showing, he still did a really good job.

Lauren, on the other hand, picked "Flat on the Floor", and flat is exactly what she was for the majority of her performance of the Carrie Underwood song, which was simply too big for her voice ( as it was the first time).

Truth be told, neither of the final two did a great job of picking their best moment. Scotty would have fared much better with "Letters From Home" or "Your Man", and Lauren should have chosen "Candle in the Wind".

ROUND 1 GOES TO..... Scotty McCreery

ROUND 2: A SONG CHOSEN BY THEIR IDOL

Scotty McCreery - "Check Yes or No"

Lauren Alaina - "Maybe It Was Memphis"

Chosen by George Strait, Scotty took on one of the country veteran's hits and he did the best he could, but as Jennifer pointed out, the song was simply not dynamic enough to showcase the highs and lows of his voice.

Lauren sung "Maybe It Was Memphis", chosen by Carrie Underwood and as it was during her winning season, everything she touches turns to gold. Not only was it a great song, but it was a great showcase Lauren's tone.

ROUND 2 GOES TO..... Lauren Alaina

ROUND 3: THE WINNER'S FIRST SINGLE

Scotty McCreery - "I Love You This Big"

Lauren Alaina - "Like My Mother Does"

CELEBRITY BUG'S CHOICE TO WIN

In the final round, both contestants truly laid it all on the line, and although Scotty's single is the better single of the two, somehow Lauren's song seems to consummate her journey and feels like a better choice in this moment.

That said, we have watched her play it safe so much throughout the process of this show, we have to wonder if pulling out the big guns on the final night will actually work, given the fans and likability that Scotty has continuously demonstrated.

Still, both will undoubtedly see success in the country world with the right music, but Lauren has the better voice and on this given night, she simply was better, so we endorse Lauren Alaina as our choice to win the tenth season.
