Despite being the last hero to strike, 'Captain America' delivered the best opening attendance, raking in a hefty $65.1 million this past weekend.
Although that number is just shy of the opening weekend of 'Thor' ($65.7), it did post 8 percent more attendees and bettered both 'Green Lantern' ($53.2) and 'X-Men: First Class' ($55.1).
The final installment of 'Harry Potter', on the other hand, took a 72 percent fall from its previous record-breaking weekend, yet still took in $47.4 million.
'Friends with Benefits' also got off to a solid start with $18.6 million, but still failed to up 'No Strings Attached' ($19.7), despite better critic reviews.
Rounding out the top five films were: 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' with $12 million and the ensemble comedy 'Horrible Bosses' at $11.9 million.
