2013 ACM Awards: Celebrity Bug Predictions

Country Superstars photo countrystars.png

We are literally hours away from the 2013 Academy of Country Music Awards and one thing is for sure, at the end of the night one group of country music fans will happy when the winners of each category is announced and four other group of country music fans will be left screaming at the television in disapproval.

Eric Church leads the field of nominees with seven nominations followed newcomer Hunter Hayes with six, but do either one of the stars have what it takes to walk away as the biggest winner of the night? Take a look at our predictions and share yours beneath:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Entertainer of the Year
Jason Aldean
Luke Bryan
Miranda Lambert
Blake Shelton
Taylor Swift

Prediction: Taylor Swift. Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan have all had a big year, but unfortunately none of them have the fan-base to keep Taylor Swift for winning her fourth consecutive trophy in the fan-voted category. Of the three, I give Luke Bryan the edge, given he has done well in the past with fan-voted awards and will be front and center throughout the telecast lobbying for votes as the host. Blake Shelton also has a chance, unlike his wife Miranda Lambert, who shouldn't be nominated in the category at all, but ultimately, I firmly believe the award is Taylor's to lose.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Male Vocalist of the Year
Jason Aldean
Luke Bryan
Eric Chuch
Toby Keith
Blake Shelton

Prediction: Jason Aldean. Unlike the female category, with the exception of Toby Keith, a strong argument could really be made for each and every one of the guys. Still, Aldean should and rightfully deserves to secure his first win in the category. Eric Church or Luke Bryan haven't firmly secured themselves as headlining acts and Blake Shelton has spent more time on 'The Voice' than he has touring as a artist, but Aldean upped his game by playing a few stadiums, which should make this a easier decision for voters.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Female Vocalist of the Year
Miranda Lambert
Martina McBride
Kacey Musgraves
Taylor Swift
Carrie Underwood

Prediction: Carrie Underwood. There are five nominees, but this is really a two woman race. Martina McBride and Kacey Musgraves are both great, but they are filler nominees at best and while Taylor Swift has sold more albums in the past year than the other four nominees combined, she is more of a entertainer than a vocalist, which is why she has never secured a win in this category. Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert are the only two with a fighting chance at winning, and the former has undeniably had a better year in terms of touring, sales and chart positions, which should help her reclaim her throne after watching Lambert win the award for the past four years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vocal Duo of the Year
Big and Rich
Florida Georgia Line
Love and Theft
Sugarland
Thompson Square

Prediction: Thompson Square. Big and Rich, Love and Theft and Sugarland are just here to fill up space in my opinion, I believe the category is a toss up between newcomers Florida Georgia Line and Thompson Square, with the latter taking the trophy.  While Florida Georgia Line have released the biggest single of the nominees with "Cruise", the duo have only released two singles and given Thompson Square took the category at last year's CMA Awards, I give them the edge over Florida Georgia Line.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vocal Group of the Year
The Band Perry
Eli Young Band
Lady Antebellum
Little Big Town
Zac Brown Band

Prediction: Little Big Town. Eli Young Band, despite the other nominations for "Even if It Breaks Your Heart", simply haven't made enough of an impact in the past year to pull an upset, and Lady Antebellum and The Band Perry are just gearing up to release new albums. On the other hand, Little Big Town and Zac Brown Band are both coming off wins at the 2013 Grammy Awards, but it's hard to deny the career year that Little Big Town have enjoyed with their 'Tornado' album and that gives them the edge.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Artist of the Year
Jana Kramer
Brantley Gilbert
Florida Georgia Line

Prediction: Florida Georgia Line. This category is a fan-voted award and given FGL is still riding high off the success of "Cruise", I believe they defeat Gilbert and Kramer. A FGL win would also keep peace on the home front for the engaged couple.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Album of the Year
Carrie Underwood - 'Blown Away'
Eric Church - 'Chief'
Taylor Swift - 'Red'
Luke Bryan - 'Tailgates and Tanlines'
Little Big Town - 'Tornado'

Prediction: Eric Church, 'Chief'.  This is another category that is really up for grabs and even though Church's album was released way back in 2011, the fact that he is still releasing singles from the set says a lot about the overall quality of the project and gives him an edge to repeat his CMA win in this category. Underwood has already produced three No.1 singles and won two Grammy's for her album, a feat that is unmatched by any of her fellow nominees, so she is neck and neck with Church in terms of chances to win. Swift has sold the most albums, but despite its critical and commercial success, 'Red' is unapologetically a pop album not a country album. Little Big Town's album is too new to take the category and Luke Bryan's album is a little too old, but I wouldn't complain if either of them won the category. Still, I believe the battle is between Church and Underwood with the former taking the trophy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Song of the Year
Lee Brice - "A Woman Like You"
Eli Young Band - "Even if It Breaks Your Heart"
Miranda Lambert - "Over You"
Eric Church - "Springsteen"
Hunter Hayes - "Wanted"

Prediction: Miranda Lambert, "Over You". Honestly, I think both Hayes and Church are nominated for better songs with the latter actually having a legitimate shot at winning. Still, Lambert won this category at last year's CMA Awards and created a emotional moment with her husband Blake Shelton, who wrote the song. It's a moment I believe the academy will have firmly planted in their heads when they vote for this award.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Single Record of the Year
Eli Young Band - "Even if It Breaks Your Heart"
Miranda Lambert - "Over You"
Little Big Town - "Pontoon"
Eric Church - "Springsteen"
Hunter Hayes - "Wanted"

Prediction: Little Big Town, "Pontoon". Again, I believe Hayes and Church have the two strongest songs in this category, but they aren't nearly as fun as "Pontoon", which is almost single-handily responsible for LBT's career year. Church is also a contender in the category, which sadly like the Song of the Year category doesn't include Carrie Underwood's beautifully written No.1 "Blown Away", but the trophy is LBT's to lose.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Video of the Year
Eric Church - "Creepin"
Hunter Hayes - "Wanted"
Little Big Town - "Tornado"
Kacey Musgraves - "Merry Go Round"
Taylor Swift - "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"
Zac Brown Band - "The Wind"

Prediction: Little Big Town, "Tornado". None of the music videos in this category are overly impressive in my opinion, but I believe the real battle lies between Little Big Town and Eric Church, with both being pretty even in terms of chances to win.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vocal Event of a Year
"Don't Rush" - Kelly Clarkson (feat. Vince Gill)
"Easy" - Rascal Flatts (feat. Natasha Bedingfield)
"Feel Like A Rock Star" - Kenny Chesney (feat. Tim McGraw)
"Let It Rain" - David Nail (feat. Sarah Buxton)
"The Only Way I Know" - Jason Aldean (feat. Luke Bryan & Eric Church)

Prediction: Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan & Eric Church, "The Only Way I Know". Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw won this category at the last year's CMA Awards, but that collaboration feels underwhelming in comparison to what this unlikely trio delivered. Chesney and McGraw still have a chance based on their names and hugely successfully 'Brothers of the Sun' co-headlining tour, but that chance is very slim.
