2014 Academy Awards: Nominations

This morning (January 16th), the nominations for the 86th Annual Academy Awards were announced and 'American Hustle' and 'Gravity' lead the pack with an astounding 10 nominations including nominations for their stars.

'12 Years A Slave', directed by Steve McQueen, followed closely behind with 9 nominations including one for its director, producer Brad Pitt and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and newcomer Lupita Nyong’o.

Lead Actor nominees included the previously-mentioned Ejifor, Christian Bale, Bruce Dern, Leonardo DiCaprio and Matthew McConaughey, while the Lead Actress features Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Judi Dench and Meryl Streep. Last year's winner Jennifer Lawrence scored a Supporting Actress nod.

The biggest snubs included Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Daniel Brühl and Oprah Winfrey, who all hit a significant number of precursors only to be shut out where it counts the most. Peep the full list of nominees for the forthcoming ceremony beneath:
