In his opening monologue, host Chris Rock wasted no time getting into the diversity issues at the 88th Annual Academy Awards, which he referred to "White Peoples’ Choice Awards", by taking serious, funny and at a particular time, an over-the-line jab that failed to realize the importance of the issues and why those speaking out should not be used as a pun.
At the beginning, he didn't seem to be sensitive to issue taking numerous jabs at boy-cotters Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, but in the end he got more serious, saying: "We want opportunity, we want black actors to get the same opportunities and not just once — Leo gets a great part every year!".
