Beyonce Admits To Lip-Syncing & Delievers A LIVE Performance Of The National Anthem

1/31/2013 0
Super Bowl XLVII (1/31/13), Beyonce

Beyonce knows how to work the media and work the media is exactly what she did at the press conference for in New Orleans on Thursday, January 31st, where the singer talked about her highly-anticipated halftime performance at Super Bowl XLVII.

The singer walked on the stage, asked the crowd to stand and belted out "The Star Spangled Banner" to cheers from the media-filled crowd. After she finished she asked the crowd, simply, "Any questions?", and revealed why she chose to use a backing track.

"I am a perfectionist. And one thing about me, I practice until my feet bleed. And I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. It was a live tv show and a very, very important, emotional show for me. One of my proudest moments. Due to the weather, due to the delay and lack of proper sound-check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the President and the Inauguration. And I wanted to make him and my country proud. So, I decided to sing along to a pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry. And I'm very proud of my performance."

Peep her performance and press conference, as well as, my thoughts on this, beneath:

"The Star Spangled Banner"

Press Conference

The issue was never about whether she possessed the ability to sing the song live or not, because we all know she can sing. The problem, for me, is that she allowed this controversy to overshadow what was most important by not admitting her actions sooner.

That said, a couple of things irked me about her press conference today.

First off, she had numerous excuses for why she chose to lip-sync, but many of these excuses were invalidated by the fact that Kelly Clarkson and the other performers of the day all faced the same weather conditions and possible sounds issues that she was, yet they didn't choose to take the easy route of using a pre-recorded track.

Secondly, she said she didn't have time to rehearse, because of her Super Bowl commitments. Well then, why take on more than you can handle. Give someone else an opportunity to shine for a chance. I love and respect what Beyonce brings to the table, but at some point, you have to be willing to admit that you are not Superwoman.

Lastly, she lied by saying she "always sings live". This is simply not true, in fact, I can list numerous events and performances where she has used backing tracks to keep her from sounding out of breath and pitchy during her over-the-top and high energy performances. There was no need to lie about this when it is common knowledge amongst music fans (except for the delusional Beehive) that you utilize backing tracks.

All of that aside, this is not an attempt to attack Beyonce, because as I previously stated, I live for what she brings to the table in an industry where most artists are far too comfortable getting by on their looks alone, but wrong is wrong and right is right.

Rihanna Defends Reuniting With Chris Brown In New 'Rolling Stone' Interview

1/30/2013 0
Rolling Stone (2/14/13), Rihanna

Rihanna doesn't care if you are rooting for or against her reunion with Chris Brown, in fact, she only interested in doing what makes her happy. In her new issue of Rolling Stone, she doesn't hold back and official confirms that she and Brown are on again.

Entitled 'Crazy In Love', the featured article she the singer dishing on why she decided to give their relationship another try, why she had to deal with her feelings on her own and if she is worried that he will hit her again. Read what the beauty had to say beneath:

On Initially Being Mad & Deciding to Reunite:
"I wanted him to know what it felt like to lose me. To feel the consequences of that. But I got real with myself, and I just couldn’t bury the way I felt.I decided it was more important for me to be happy, and I wasn’t going to let anybody’s opinion get in the way of that. Even if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I’d rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it."

On Not Being Able to Talk To Anyone About Chris:
"I just felt like, why bother? Nobody else is going through it. Nobody would understand."

On Growing to Value Each Other:
"When you add up the pieces from the outside, it’s not the cutest puzzle in the world. You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it’s different now. We don’t have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about (stuff). We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don’t want to lose that."

On What Makes Her Love Him:
"For a long time he was really angry, and he felt like he couldn’t get away from it, no matter what he did. But there’s so many reasons why I ever reconsidered having him in my life. He’s not the monster everybody thinks. He’s a good person. He has a fantastic heart. He’s giving and loving. And he’s fun to be around. That’s what I love about him – he always makes me laugh. All I want to do is laugh, really – and I do that with him."

On Him Changing:
"Of course everybody has their opinion about him, because of what he’s done. That will always be there. But he made a mistake, and he’s paid his dues. He’s paid so much. And I know that’s not a place he would ever want to go back to. And sometimes people need support and encouragement, instead of ridicule and criticism and bashing."

On If She’s Trying to Rehabilitate Him:
"Wait. You think I’m here to rehabilitate Chris? No, no, no. That is not my purpose. Trust me. I could have done that from the jump if I thought that was my job. My job was to take care of myself – and I did. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think Chris was ready. And trust me – it makes me feel great to know that people care. I guess it’s just something that will show with time. There’s nothing I could say that would convince you right now. But we’re in a great place. And I can’t ever see us going back."

On If She's Worried About History Repeating Itself:
"Listen, I’ll tell you right now: I don’t have to take it. If he gives me that again, here’s what I give him: nothing. I just walk away. He doesn’t have that luxury of (expletive) up again. That’s just not an option. I can’t say that nothing else will go wrong. But I’m pretty solid in knowing that he’s disgusted by that. And I wouldn’t have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility."

On Love Being Her Weakness:
"I could never identify with that word, ‘weak.’ I couldn’t have come out of this if I was weak. No way."

Can't help but love how unapologetic she is (pun intended), but Brown's actions since the 2009 assault have shown that he is anything but a changed man. Hopefully, this works out for the two of them this time around, but while we anxiously await the outcome of their reunion, take a listen to their latest music collaboration "Nobodies Business":

Carrie Underwood Covers 'Allure' Magazine

1/27/2013 0
Allure

Carrie Underwood serves as the cover girl for the February issue of Allure magazine and the Grammy-winning star follows up her controversial comment on gay marriage by clarifying her statements to the publication and exactly why she supports the issue.

In the issue, she also sounds off on the television series 'Nashville' (Hayden Panettiere has said she modeled her character after Underwood), finding her prince charming with husband Mike Fisher and how she avoids wardrobe malfunctions.

On Gay Marriage:
"I'm in favor of acceptance. And I am a Christian person, and I do love the Lord, and I feel no matter who you are, what you believe, how you live your life, it's not my place to judge. I don’t have that power. I don’t want that power. It's my place to love and to show God’s love to other people, even if they don’t live a life like I live. So that’s where I'm coming from."

On the Series, 'Nashville':
"I'm not like that at all. It's juicy, but I hope not everybody thinks that everything goes down like that in Nashville, and we're evil. To be honest, I've been fortunate enough to work with other types of music—and we’re the least drama-rific people."

On Finding Her Prince Charming:
"We’ve seen a lot of celebrities, professional athletes, not exactly always being on their best behavior away from girlfriends, wives, families, and people would say, ‘Do you ever worry that he’s an athlete, he’s young, he’s good-looking?’ And I’ve never had to worry about him because I’ve never trusted anybody so completely … He just wouldn’t do that. We want that person to be everything we’ve always wanted. If they’re not Prince Charming, we try to make them Prince Charming. But Prince Charming does exist! I found one."

On Avoiding Wardrobe Malfunctions:
"Underneath every skirt, every dress, I'm wearing shorts. So that everyone in the world knows, if I ever fell down, nobody would get a peek at anything."
