'Cadillac Records' Flop At Box Office

Beyonce can finally add flop to her resume after her movie 'Cadillac Records', which chronicles the rise of Chess Records and its recording artists in Chicago of the 1950s and 60s, only grossed $3.5 million at the box office.

Given the film had a 12 million dollar budget and only took a little over 25% of that, this is definitely not helping her build a resume as a bankable actress, furthermore the reviews for the project haven't exactly been glowing either.

  1. Beyonce is one of the most overrated ASS acts in the industry. She has been on the scene for a month and already she is a bore, snore, and just predictable. If she isn't recycling and stealing ideas, she's lying about writing credits. I guess talking about her so called private life didn't do much to help sales. Fake and phony should be added to her resume as well. Beyonce needs to step her game up or sit down. She needs to sing timeless music if she wants to be an icon. Now that the movie had a "Glitter" moment. Hopefully the yodeling hoochie will have a Mariah like meltdown and take a loooong overdue break and discover her identity so that she can build a legitimate brand and not off the backs of other successful celebrities.

  3. The movie had an excellent cast; however, maybe they shouldn't have used her name to promote. She probably hurt the project instead of helping it.

  4. Anonymous said it all. What an accurate assessment. Beyonce is overvalued... its broads in the game that sing circles around her (Ahem!! Jennifer Hudson). She is an average, illiterate, uneducated joke... She is the biggest fallacy that black music has ever seen. She’s always annoyed me but now i'm just down right disgusted.

  5. Beyonce has been highly overrated for years, there's no denying the chick can sing, she's no Patti or WHitney (in her prime), but she can sing, however that acting is completely different story. Cadillac Records is her best performance to date, not like it was hard, but her acting comes across as forced not natural. CB needs to do a step your game up post for her acting, because in my eyes, both Alicia, Jennifer, and even Ashanti are outshining her in that dept.

  6. I'm saying this as a Beyonce fan, she just needs to give up on the acting thing, because she's not good at it.

  10. Its obvious you B fans are in denial, She flopped, so what, go back to the drawing board and try again. I suppose the reviews of the movie being really cuttered has something to do with it only being in 646 theaters too.

  11. She didnt flop the movie did, FYI I AM SASHA FIERCE IS DOING QUIT WELL. A lot of successful actors or actresses have had a movie to flop. Don't get me wrong this is not good for Beyonce at all. But you people on here just a have a personal issue with Beyonce and that being that she is ten times the success that your favorite celebrity is or will ever be. And everyone that has given a bad review has also said that Beyonce showed MUCH IMPROVED ACTING SKILLS.

  12. ^ I actually saw the movie, and her acting has improved, but it comes across as 'ACTING' and not real life, like Halle or Sanaa could have bought to the role. Its like she's trying too hard.

  13. Considering the level of acting she had prior to this film, it wouldn't take very much for her acting to improve. I heard she wants to play Wonder Woman in the film adaptation...please get me a lasso so I can hang myself.

  14. LMAO. As for the movie flopped comment, the film was marketed in support of Beyonce, instead of the other actors who can actually act and I think that hurt the movie. As for the movie, it really just had too many storylines going on and the stories didn't have enough time to develop, B, IMO was no better than in Dreamgirls. If she wins an oscar for this then it will decrease the value of the awards IMO.

  15. lmfao! yay! finally people are realizing how wak this braod is!!! everything has been about this gurl for the last 5 years! she is compared to everyone by everyone and its pretty sickening! Jennifer Hudson would have blown this performance out the water shit even Quueen Latifah! as soon as i heard she was in this i was like hell no i wont go!!!and yes its tru every artist has their flops, i mean my favorite artist Jennifer Lopez had Gigli, Mariah (who i can't stand) had Glitter, Madonna had "Swept Away", Sharon Stone had "Basic Instinct 2" and even Halle had "Catwoman" but unlike Beyawnce these artists have at least had credible roles (well except Mariah Scarrey) and actually pulled off movies where they did have to sing (Dorthy Dandridge, Selene, Evita). my point is that i'm so glad people are finally starting to pay attention! shes wak and by the way albums that are 10 times better then hers this year... lets see.... the sik sik album from no other than her former group mate Michelle Williams "Unexpected", Brandy's "Human", Leona Lewis's "Spirit", Deborah Cox's "The Promise", and even freakin Britney's "Circus" lmfao

  17. It's very unfortunate that rolls for black actresses are already limited and they continue to go to Beyonce who cannot act. She can sing but she CANNOT act. I support giving singers/rappers a chance to act and if they are good continue to cast them. Will Smith, Mos Def (but he really started acting before rapping), Queen Latifah, etc. All good actors/actresses and they were known as rappers before. BUT once a singer PROVES (Carmen a Hip Hopera, The Fighting Temptations and Dreamgirls) that they are no able to carry a movie STOP casting them. I agree..promoting Beyonce in a lead role hurt this film because ONLY die hard B fans would go and see it and this movie is not the type of genre a die hard B fan would be interested in. So I have it in my netflix queue because I know she can't act and will not pay $10 to see that. JHud was the star of Dreamgirls and that was really a great movie. I am not sure if opening in 600 theaters and bringing in $3M is really a flop. I will be curious to see how many theaters the movie played in this week and the box office. That will be a better indicator.
