UPDATE: Album Version Added.
Mariah Carey makes her return to ballads on “I Want to Know What Love Is”, a cover of the ’80s Foreigner’s classic, which will serve as the second single from her new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (September 29th).

This is the prime example of the actual product not living up to the building hype. I will say that the track is by no means a bad effort, in fact, it is quite good, but a couple of things detour me from labeling this one a winner.
The main focus being that Mariah's vocal approach through the beginning and middle portions of the song come across extremely lazy and although the end is really nice, based on recent showings, she will likely have problems delivering on the live performance front.
In addition, this song doesn't exactly epitomize single-worthy in today's market, especially if it is expected to stand on its own two feet. I think pairing it with another release, that one can deem more radio appealing, is an element that would only add to its claim for success.
That said, best of luck to Mariah and her lambs with this one.
