'The Artist' collected 5 trophies including Best Picture and Best Actor for Jean Dujardin, while Meryl Streep won Best Actress over fan-favorite Viola Davis.
Extending their awards sweep - Christopher Plummer and Octavia Spencer were named Best Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress for their memorable roles as a terminal cancer patient in 'Beginners' and feisty maid in 'The Help'.
The 82-year-old actor beat out fellow nominees Kenneth Branagh, Nick Nolte, Max Von Sydow and Jonah Hill, to become the oldest actor to collect a trophy.
In her emotional acceptance speech - the Montgomery, Alabama native thanked her Alabama family, her Los Angeles family and the movie's director Tate Taylor.
