Taylor Swift knows how to make a debut!!! For the third consecutive album, the singer sells over a million copies in her debut week as her new album, '1989', moves an astounding 1.287 million copies to log the largest sales week for an album since 2002.
While she is the first artist to sell over a million copies in the first week with three different albums, Britney Spears still holds the highest first-week sales for female artist - she moved 1.319 million units of her sophomore album 'Oops! … I Did It Again'.
'1989', which she executive produced with Max Martin, becomes the first album of 2014 to go platinum, and Swift sales has increased with each subsequent album. She previously sold 1.047 million copies of 'Speak Now' in 2010, followed by 1.208 million copies of 'Red' in 2012.
