Justin Bieber Triumphs One Direction To Debut At No.1 With 'Purpose'

With eight new releases entering the top 10, Justin Bieber pulled out a huge win over One Direction to debut atop the Billboard 200 for the sixth time with his 'Purpose' album, which logged the largest sales week of the year with 649,000 equivalent album units

The figure includes 522,000 in pure album sales and marks the heartthrob''’s fifth straight set to open at No.1, following 'Believe: Acoustic' (2013), 'Believe' (2012), 'Under the Mistletoe' (2011) and 'Never Say Never: The Remixes' (2011).

'My World 2.0' also reached the top in April 2010, while 'My World' started at No.5 in 2010 and 'My Worlds Acoustic' debuted at No.7 in December 2010.

As for One Direction, their first-week numbers are nothing to laugh at as 'Made In the A.M.' launches at No.2 with 459,000 equivalent album units including 402,000 in pure album sales. It marks the first time two albums have sold at least 400,000 in the same week since 2009.
