On July 7, Michael Jackson's family gathered to celebrate him at his much-watched memorial service.
Noticeably absent?
Janet Jackson's longtime music-exec boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri. (A pal says Dupri skipped the memorial because he "doesn't attend funerals.")
And for good reason. "His friends are telling people it's over," a source tells the new issue of Us Weekly, on stands now.
Echoes another: "They have been moving in different directions for a while."
So what drove Jackson, 43, and Dupri, 36, apart after nearly seven years?
"You shouldn't mix business with pleasure," a mutual pal explains. (Dupri produced several tracks on her last two CDs.) "Janet felt their lives were too crossed and they should have kept things separate."
Plus, the polar opposites were never too compatible.
"Jermaine likes to be out there, mingling with everybody, and Janet's more shy." (And secretive: She kept her nine-year marriage to Rene Elizondo hidden until their 2000 divorce.)
Meanwhile, Jackson is still deeply mourning the death of her big brother.
"She's devastated," an insider says. "She's busy caring for Michael's kids. Janet's the family's backbone."

AllHipHop.com has received an exclusive report that Atlanta-based producer Jermaine Dupri’s tenure as President of Island Records Urban Music has come to an end. 
Nelly hosted the 3rd Annual Black & White Ball in St. Louis over the weekend. The gala drew girlfriend Ashanti and her family, Jermaine Dupri, and performers Boyz II Men. In addition, the rapper awarded two students with full-tuition scholarships. 
Is it just me or has Ashanti been enjoying her cake and cookies a little too much? Just a thought, that said, much credit to Nelly for continuing to do positive things in the community.

An elite group of star gathered for Cartier's up-class launch event for their new LOVE Charity Bracelet. Among the attendees were Janet Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, Fergie, Ashanti, Common, Eve and Kimora Lee Simmons. 
The video for Nelly's latest single 'Stepped On My J's (ft. Jermaine Dupri & Ciara)' premiered on BET just a few short hours ago. The video is decent, as is the song which had to grow on me, but Ciara clip was definitely the highlight IMO.

With the release of Nelly's Brass Knuckles fast approaching, a new cut from the set has surfaced. 'Stepped On My J's', which features Jermaine Dupri and R&B star Ciara, shows us why we all fell in love with his music in the first place. I'm really liking this one and I know radio will eat this up. Brass Knuckles will hit stores on June 24th.
