Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Reportly Engaged

4/30/2008 0
Numerous sources including Access Hollywood are reporting that Nick Cannon has indeed pop the question to his rumored love interest Mariah Carey.

The couple sent the rumor mill into overdrive when 38-year-old Mariah (with Nick on her arm) was seen sporting a dazzling new piece of bling on her ring finger at the after party for her Tribeca film, “Tennessee,” in New York.

When asked what he loved about Carey, Nick, 27, said, "Everything."

If this is true then these two are moving a little too fast for me, I mean not too long ago she was dating producer Mark Sudack, and since neither one of their reps have made any comments about the reported engagement this could possibly just be another publicity stunt.

Chris Brown - 'Forever' Video

4/30/2008 0

While I'm not a huge fan of the song, I can definitely see the appeal it will have to pop radio and dance clubs. I'm really liking the video, although by no means groundbreaking or original, I feel it does the song justice. Look out for the re-release of his already platinum album, Exclusive, due to hit stores on June 3rd.

Usher Speaks to Parlour Magazine

4/30/2008 0

R&B superstar Usher recently sat down with Parlour magazine to chat about his upcoming album, his family, and the haters. Peep it Below:

Our boy—ahem, our man—Usher, was in New York recently and Parlour got the chance to kick it with the triple-threat chiseled entertainer. Don’t even try escaping his single “Love In This Club,” and his album, Here I Stand, hits shelves May 27th. With wall-to-wall club joints and slow jams made for quickies, this latest disc should knock as hard as its 2004 predecessor Confessions. But there’s a more mature Usher at its helm. It’s still the same Ursh who used to drop his pants during shows, except he’s married now (for which he’s attracted some hate) and just had his first child, Usher Raymond IV. Along with addressing the haters, Usher also let Parlour in on the mind state of a married man and how he’s getting better with age.

Parlour: Where’ve you been hiding?
Usher: I need you to miss me [he smiles]. If I stay in your face all the time you’ll get tired of seeing me. I went to Broadway (Chicago, the musical), did a movie. I had a label and still do. But when I’m in another area of entertainment I’m missing what I do the most. So I’ll be on stage playing Billy Flynn but singing records that I came up with or doing new dance choreography. Or if I’m on the set and supposed to be in character, I’m somewhere off in the corner singing and dancing.

P: How has your marriage and fatherhood affected your music?
U: This album, to me, is a staple in time. I like to make music about where I am, but I also try to make records that will be like soundtracks to life. So that people will be
able to relate to them, maybe one day grow from them, learn, love from ‘em. This
one particularly is more special than all of the others. I know it sounds cliché to say that! But honestly it’s the pivotal moment for me as an artist, as well as a husband in a way, and a father. These are all new journeys for me, the most meaningful, because they’re the most rewarding.

P: How exactly have you grown?
U: The knowledge that rests in the mistakes slowly but surely become wisdom, so that’s really the process that I’m going through as a man. Where I stand as a husband, as a father, as an individual, as a businessman, is all a testimony to what I’ve been through and where I’ve been.

P: How does “Love in This Club” fit into that?
U: “Love in This Club” is the position that I was in about two years ago and as a result of having that record, there’s a series of events that will happen.

P: Talk about the title track, “Here I Stand.” I heard some things about it…
U: It’s an intimate conversation that a young man has with his woman when he says, "I know it’s hard for you to believe that you’re the only one for me.” This is the set-up before a man says, “I’m standing here with you.”

P: And some of the other tracks?
U: “Something Special” is about the feeling of finding love for the first time. When you finally decide to really take a relationship to the next level and be serious it’s something that you don’t back away from. Even if you try to escape it, you can’t find a way to get out of it. It’s got to be something special. And a lot of times when you find that thing, other people may not believe in it. Other people may be against it. Other people may not understand it. But it’s you and that person against the world, and that’s really the attitude and the position you have to take.

P: Which song do you identify with the most?
U: Well, I identify with all of the records to be honest with you. But “Before I Met You” is one of the songs that I instantly identify with. I’ll just tell you some of the hook: “I was a hustler and a player before I met you. I tricked a little something, hit a little something before I met you. How you made a difference, what I been missing, I got my life together and I’ll thank you forever. I really used to go all out before I met you. Had a new one every night and sometimes I had two. But all of that done changed, my games, my frame of mind you got it right and I’ll love you for life.” It’s what I think a young man is, before he decides to become a real man.

P: Last words?
U: I love my son and I love my wife and they’re the supporting foundation of what I’m doing. I love my fans—I thank y’all so, so much for coming back to the party with me. For all you haters, sorry we back on top. [Laughs] For those of you that doubted it for a minute I’m really sorry for you, but this is definitely going to be a reward for those who’ve been waiting, rooting and supporting and I’m not gon’ let you down. I promise.

Great Interview. It's really nice to see that 'Here I Stand' has a message behind it, but it'll be more interesting to see if this album can musically top the nearly flawless 'Confessions', which I still have in heavy rotation til this very day. 'Before I Met You' sounds as if it maybe one of the standout tracks from the album and this interview really has me amped for the album, due in stores May 27th.

Girlicious appeared on Fuse's The Sauce to promote their single 'Like Me', which currently sits at no.3 on Itunes. The girls were interviewed and gave an on the spot acapella rendition of 'Like Me'. Check it Out Below:

Aside for each of the girls fighting for talk time and the horrible rendition of the song, these girls show much promise for the future. Their self-titled album is scheduled to hit stores on July 1st and I'm personally excited to see if they can deliver the goods.

Kelly Rowland Performs 'Daylight' On Paul O' Grady

4/30/2008 0
R&B singer Kelly Rowland stopped by The Paul O' Grady Show yesterday to perform her new UK single 'Daylight':

While I'm more of a fan on Kelly's studio voice than her live one, this performance definitely sticks out as one of best solo live performances, vocally at least. I hate the song and I'm still waiting for Kelly to bring her 'A' game musically, and it looks like I'll be doing just that...WAITING.

Jennifer Lopez’s New Series ‘Not a Reality Show’

4/29/2008 0

Jennifer Lopez will be letting TV cameras into her life — just not her entire life.

“The recent show Jennifer Lopez plans to produce for TLC is not a reality show,” says her manager, Simon Fields. “It’s a show that will track the creation, production and eventual launch of a new fragrance. Jennifer will appear in a creative, entrepreneurial capacity and will absolutely not feature her children and family life.”

There is no broadcast date set for the show, but Fields says it will be this year .

I for one am glad that Jennifer has decided to bar the cameras from her family life, I think her letting the public in had a lot to do with the failure of her first two marriages.

Ashanti Performs Live at Spotlight in NYC

4/29/2008 2
Grammy award winning songstress Ashanti, recently performed her hit single 'The Way I Love You', an untitled selection, and 'Girlfriend' during an live showcase at NYC club Spotlight.

While I have often found Ashanti lacking the props she deserved as an artist and songwriter, it is nice to see that she's finally getting some much deserved shine. Good performance, her vocals were off at points, but she did a great job nonetheless. 'The Way That I Love You' currently sits at no.6 on the R&B charts garnerishing her 14th top ten hit, more than any other female this decade, Beyonce, Mariah, and Alica included. 'The Declaration' is shaping up to be a project that may surprise many, the untitled song is hot, and while I'm not completely sold on 'Girlfriend' I can definitely see the appeal behind it.

New Music: Busta Rhymes featuring Linkin Park - ‘We Made It’

4/29/2008 0
“We Made It” is the first official single from Busta Rhymes’ new album Blessed (June 17). The song was produced by Cool & Dre and features Linkin Park. A video for the song was directed by Chris Robinson and will premiere today during 106 & Park.

While I've never been a Busta Rhymes fan, this along with 'What's It Gonna Be' featuring Janet Jackson, as well as a host of others, stand as tracks by him that I actually find appealing.

Mariah Carey - 'Bye Bye' Video Preview

4/28/2008 0
The video for Mariah Carey's new single 'Bye Bye' is set to debut this week. In the meanwhile, check out this short preview:

I will reserve all of my judgement for later, but it looks as if the video will fit in nicely with the song and I'm sure Nick Cannon's placement as the leading man will add sparks to the already buzzing reports that the two are indeed an item.

Girlicious Perform 'Like Me' on KTLA

'The Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious' winners performed their new single 'Like Me' recently on morning show KTLA. Check out the performance below:

The performance was nothing special, but still pretty decent. Girlicious is the creation of Robin Antin, the same force behind the Pussycat Dolls, and while the girls show lots of potential they still had a lot of work to do to get on level with Nicole and the rest of the gang.

Rihanna - 'Take A Bow' Video

Rihanna's 'Take A Bow' premiered yesterday on Def Jam's official website. The song is lifted from the upcoming re-release of 'Good Girl Gone Bad' due in stores on June 17. The video is kind of generic for the song, but it serves it purpose. Rihanna looks great, but I'm not feeling the boyish cut.

Chris Brown Preps “Exclusive: The Forever Edition”

4/28/2008 0
Jive Records recording artist Chris Brown is set to release Exclusive: The Forever Edition on June 3rd. The Forever Edition, is an updated and revamped version of his multi-platinum release Exclusive and includes the original 16 tracks from the sophomore effort plus four brand new tracks that feature top-notch collaborations and a bonus DVD with unreleased concert and behind the scenes footage.

“Forever,” the lead single from the upcoming Forever Edition is a slight departure from Chris Brown’s usual musical forte. Produced by super-producer Polow da Don, “Forever,” is a rhythmic up-tempo song with a funky pop edge. Additional bonus tracks include: “Heart Ain’t A Brain,” “Super Human” with Keri Hilson, and the “Picture Perfect Remix” featuring Bow Wow & Hurricane Chris. Completing the Forever Edition package is a bonus DVD with a special montage of performances from his recent Up Close & Personal sold–out tour and never before seen behind the scenes footage.

This week the multi-talented performer’s current single, “With You” maintains the #1 position as the most played single on Billboard’s Hot 100 Airplay chart for the sixth week in a row. On the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, Chris Brown currently has two songs in the Top 10, holding the #8 slot with his hit single “With You,” and is featured on Jordin Sparks’ smash hit song “No Air,” which takes the #5 spot. The video for “With You” recently topped the video charts at #1 on both BET and MTV networks. On April 10th, Chris Brown and label-mate Jordin Sparks will perform the nearly platinum-selling hit single, “No Air” on American Idol.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know how I feel about it but it seems that any project that shifts more than a million units is automatically followed by a re-release, its getting really old and predictable.

Usher vs. Mariah Carey: "My song's already bigger than hers"

4/27/2008 0

According to Hot 97, Usher called in last night to DJ Clue's radio show and said this: "The collabo, Love In The Club Part II, was supposed to be me and Mariah but L.A. Reid nixed the idea because he didn't want the song to interfere with Mariah's chart position. I got mad love for Mariah, but that's kind of dumb, how is my song going to interfere with her chart run. My songs already bigger than hers".

The Internet has been much a buzz about his comments, which I think were taken out of context. 'Love in This Club' and 'Touch My Body', currently sit at no. 4 and no. 5 respectively, so its not like he's lying.

Check out CNN's behind the scene feature of Solange's new video 'I Decided':

Although Solange still hasn't managed to step out of her sister's shadow and probably never will, I'm personally glad she's at least trying to take a new approach. I was a fan of the song from the start, but it debuted to mixed reviews weeks ago. The Melina directed clip looks promising and big ups to her management/label finally pulling out all the stops from somebody other than Beyonce.
