The final four contestants took the stage to give their best shot at the genre and even teamed up in groups of two, to deliver some smoking duets, under the assistance of this week's mentor Slash.
Adam Lambert - "Whole Lotta Love"
Its pretty much known that Adam Lambert and rock, go together like macaroni and cheese, so it was pretty safe to assume that the rocker would deliver and that's exactly what he did. Randy, said this is exactly the type of record he should record, Kara, called him a "rock god", Paula, deemed the performance "perfect", and Simon, stated no one would top his performance, and on this rare occasion, I completely agree with all the judges.
Allison Iraheta - "Cry Baby"
Allison chose a Janis Joplin classic, which as Simon pointed out, took a strong likening to the original version, which led to a feisty rant from the songstress. Still, all in all, she sounded great and it was my personal favorite performance from her, because she actually had some youth appeal.
Kris Allen & Danny Gokey - "Renegade"
I thought the duets were pointless and ultimately unfair since they chose to put the two rockers together, instead of splitting them up like it should have been done. That said, the duo sounded strong in unison and did a pretty good job with a genre that obviously isn't their strong suit.
Kris Allen - "Come Together"
The good thing about Kris is that he clearly knows who he is as an artist and chooses songs that fit within his range. I loved the performance and thought it was extremely strong, especially given Rock isn't his main suit, but unfortunately the judges didn't agree.
Danny Gokey - "Dream On"
"Dream On", is one of the best rock songs ever, and the first part of the performance was killer, but his bid to put a rock influence on his soulful voice towards the end, was a complete and utter disaster. Simon thought the performance was "like watching a horror movie" and based on that last note, I have to agree.
Adam Lambert & Allison Iraheta - "Slow Ride"
Adam and Allison together is a no brainer and just as expected the performance was great, which led to Kara calling them a "rock God and rock Goddess". Simon even thinks Adam may have helped Allison stay in the competition a week longer.
PREDICTIONS:
Bottom 2: Based on the performances, Allison and Danny, but taking the judges comments in, Kris will likely replace Danny.
Who's Going Home: Allison, should finally hit the highway this week, but Simon's comments may have led Kris to that road instead.
