Zayn Malik Leaves One Direction

3/25/2015 0

Zayn Malik, one-fifth of super-group, One Direction is going in a different direction than his bandmates and announced today (March 25th), that he will be leaving the group.

"My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologise to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world," he said in a statement posted on the boy band's official Facebook.

The remaining four members will continue as a quartet and supported Malik's decision, saying: "We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. The past five years have been beyond amazing, we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends. The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour."

Simon Cowell, who formed the boy band on 'The X Factor' in 2010, echoed the guys' words with his statement. "I would like to say thank you to Zayn for everything he has done for One Direction. Since I first met Zayn in 2010, I have grown very, very fond – and immensely proud – of him. I have seen him grow in confidence and I am truly sorry to see him leave."

He continued, "As for One Direction, fans can rest assured that Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis are hugely excited about the future of the band." Best of luck to Zayn and One Direction!!!

American Idol Recap: Kris Allen & Adam Lambert Race To The Finish Line

5/20/2009 0
One gigantic stage. Two talented singers. Three daring song choices. Four opinionated judges. Joined in unison for the performance finale of American Idol's eighth season. This would mark the last time the final two competitors would showcase to the world exactly who deserved to walk away with the covet title.

In one corner, there is the risky and theatrical talent of Adam Lambert, and in the other corner, the guy next door and charmingly, charismatic styling of crooner Kris Allen.

The guys were given three chances to impress by singing their favorite song of the season, a song chosen by producer Simon Fuller, and lastly, the winner's first single written by judge Kara DioGuardi.

Kris won the coin toss and chose to go second, so Adam kicked the show off.

Adam Lambert - "Mad World"
Adam chose to sing the haunting, "Mad World", which he sung during the "year they born" week and ended with a standing ovation from every single judge including Simon Cowell. During the original performance, I walked away saying that Adam's performance was "sheer brilliance", and although it was still good the second time around, it just failed to impact me the way the original performance did. Honestly, I think I would have rather heard his mesmerizing rendition of "Track Of My Tears" instead. That said, all of the judges loved it, but Simon did think it was a little too theatrical.

Kris Allen - "Ain't No Sunshine"
Kris chose to revisit Top 9's theme of "Top Itunes Downloads", with his version of the classic "Ain't No Sunshine", which I originally declared as a monumental performance for him. Similar to the first time around, everything about the performance just simply worked, the arrangement was great, his vocals were stunning, and once again, this performance proved that no matter how old or known a song is, if the right artist gets his or her hands on it, then new life can be granted. Randy loved that Kris' artistry is a facade, Kara loved the intimate connection he created with the audience, as did Paula, and Simon said the performance eliminated his original thoughts that maybe America had made the wrong decision.

Round 1: Simon declared Kris Allen the winner of the first round, and I have to agree.

Adam Lambert - "A Change Is Gonna Come"
Simon Fuller made a daring choice for Adam when he picked the R&B classic, "A Change Is Gonna Come", but as always, Adam was up for the challenge. The first part of the performance was a little shaky, but midway through he found his groove and ended by delivering those big notes that only Adam can deliver. The performance was good and he was definitely feeling it with a connection, but the problem with the performance for me, is that it lacked soul, which is a major requirement for a song like "A Change Is Gonna Come". Especially, when compared to the greats that took on the classic beforehand, it just paled in comparison. That said, Randy thought it was unbelievable, Kara thought it was his best version of a song ever, Paula declared he will be "iconic", and Simon felt it put him "100% back in the game".

Kris Allen - "What's Going On"
Simon Fuller made another risky choice when he chose the socially conscious Marvin Gaye classic, "What's Going On", for crooner Kris Allen. Sticking to his guns, Kris put an acoustic spin on the classic, that was good, but once again left a lot to be desired. I have to fully agree with Simon when he said the performance just wasn't worthy for this stage of the competition as it was extremely too plain. Another thing that bugged me about the performance was that there didn't seem to be a connection. That said, the judges with the exception of Simon, gave Kris positive feedback.

Round 2: Simon declared Adam Lambert the winner of the second round, but truth be told, I didn't think either of the song choices were fitting for their voices. That said, I agree, Adam takes round two.

Adam Lambert & Kris Allen - "No Boundaries"
Let me start off by saying, my problem with the winner's single, is that it always tend to suit one of the contestants better, usually the front runner, and places the other at an disadvantage given it is the last thing the audience hears. Seriously, if you look back, it starts with Kelly Clarkson's winning single, "A Moment Like This", Fantasia's winning single, "I Believe", and Jordin Sparks' single, "This Is My Now", which placed all of their competitors at a disadvantage, because it just simply suited their voices better and gave them the shine. I personally think, the finalists should pick all three of their songs on finale night, and then the winner performs the winning single after being crown the following night.

With that said, let's start with Adam's version of the Kara DioGuardi penned, "No Boundaries". The performance was extremely pitchy, especially the beginning, and though Adam tried to rescue it with his big high notes, the task ended unsuccessful. Randy thought he had some pitch problems, Kara loved that someone with his talent was singing one of her songs, Paula loved it, and Simon, who slammed the song, said he was one of the competition's most original contestants ever.

As for Kris, who is looked at as the underdog, the song was actually a better fit for him (surprising), which Randy pointed out, but still he struggled for the majority of the performance with trying to find the correct key. That said, it was still a much better version than Adam's, at least, for me. Randy called him an amazing competitor, Kara loved how compelling he is, Paula and Simon both reestablished that he rightfully deserved to be in the final two.

Round 3: Truth be told, the song is far from great, but I do feel like Kris granted it the most justice. Simon failed to call a winner.

PREDICTIONS:
Celebrity Bug's Pick To Win: For me, no matter how I look at it, whether it be from this particular night or the competition as a whole, Kris Allen takes the title.

Who Will Win: Its really a toss up, but Adam Lambert will likely take the title, given the judges have endorsed him from week one. That said, Kris has continuously emerged as a darkhorse, so he still has the chance to reign supreme.

American Idol Recap: Kris Allen & Adam Lambert Advance To The Finals, Plus Jordin Sparks & Katy Perry

5/14/2009 0

Danny Gokey is dancing off 'American Idol,' leaving Adam Lambert and Kris Allen to duke it out in the finale of the popular Fox singing competition next week.

Gokey, the bespectacled 29-year-old church music director and recent widower from Milwaukee, was revealed to have received the fewest viewer votes on Wednesday.

Gokey had continually impressed the judges with his husky voice, but not his hip shaking, throughout the contest. "Idol" judge Simon Cowell called his cover of Joe Cocker's version of "You Are So Beautiful" on Tuesday a "vocal master class" but said his dancing during Terence Trent D'Arby's "Dance Little Sister" was "desperate."

Along with Lambert, Gokey had long been considered to be a front-runner of the eighth season, never appearing as one of the show's bottom vote-getters. "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest said more than 88 million votes were received with 1 million votes separating the top two singers, meaning next week's Lambert-Allen showdown may be closer than anticipated.

"Look, none of us would have predicted this, guys," Cowell said at the end of the show.

In addition to the results, Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks performed her new single, "Battlefield", and Katy Perry performed her latest single, "Waking Up In Vegas".

Stunning Performance.

Horrible Vocals.

American Idol Recap: Kris Allen, Danny Gokey & Adam Lambert Battle For Top 2 Spots

5/13/2009 0
With only one week left before the finals, Kris Allen, Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert can all finally see their dreams within reach, and utilized this as an opportunity to showcase just why they made it this far.

The guys sung two songs, one chosen by the judges and the other chosen by them.

Danny Gokey - "Dance Little Sister" (Chosen by Paula Abdul)
Danny immediately admitted he didn't know the song, but as always he was up for the challenge. With every performance, Danny has constantly given great vocals, but he just doesn't possess anything else to match that asset. The performance was okay, not great, and my biggest problem with Danny continues to be that he is just a little too old-school to thrive in today's music market. Taylor Hicks anyone? That said, aside from the dancing, the judges loved it.

Kris Allen - "Apologize" (Chosen by Kara DioGuardi & Randy Jackson)
Kris Allen was burden with the unfortunate task of singing One Republic's massive hit that is still fresh in the mind of music listeners everywhere, so would he sink or swim? I guess that depends on how you interpret the performance, because although he didn't take risks or completely revamp the song like he has done in the past, he did deliver an extremely solid version of the now classic. The song was a perfect choice for him and this is definitely the type of music that he will record one day. I loved it and, for me, he remains the only contestant of three, that I can actually see being successful long term.

Adam Lambert - "One" (Chosen by Simon Cowell)
Brilliant! First off, the U2 song is unbelievably great in its own right, but when paired with Adam's big theatrical voice its almost too much to bear. I've been far from an Adam supporter, but he rightfully deserves a spot in the finals.

Danny Gokey - "You Are So Beautiful"
Taking an undeniable classic ballad and pairing it with Danny's voice, always results in a winner. To put it simply, the vocals were great and it totally made up for that first performance that was just okay. Simon called the performance, "a vocal masterclass", but didn't like the change in arrangement.

Kris Allen - "Heartless"
When I heard Kris was singing Kanye West's "Heartless", I thought he had blew his chances for the finals, but boy was I wrong. It was risky, bold, and ultimately a complete win for Mr. Allen. Stunning vocals, originality, and honesty I could go on and on, but I'll end by saying Kris is the only one of the three to pick a recent song, which says a lot and makes me even more of a fan.

Adam Lambert - "Crying"
To be brief, the ending was amazing, but other than that the performance as a whole left a lot to be desired. That said, Adam is pretty much a lock for the finals.

PREDICTIONS:
I'm supporting Kris all the way and based on these performances Danny should bid farewell, but sadly it might be the end of the line for Kris.

American Idol Recap: Final 3 Resides With The Boys, Paula Abdul Proves She Still Has It, Plus Daughtry & No Doubt

5/07/2009 0
For the first time in "American Idol" history, the final three competing for the crown are men.

Allison Iraheta, the last woman remaining in Season 8, was voted out of the competition on Wednesday night, as Celebrity Bug predicted.

Next week's show will be the first time a female hasn't been in the top three in the show's history.

"As she leaves us with the top three... the boys club gets set for next week," show host Ryan Seacrest said as Allison mockingly yelled "Noooooo!" before smiling and hugging finalists Danny Gokey, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.

The top 3 perform again two songs again on Tuesday, one chosen by the judges and their personal favorite.

In addition, to the results, Paula Abdul and Daughtry performed their new singles, while No Doubt hit the stage with one of their classics.

Paula has always been more of an entertainer than singer, like Britney Spears and Janet Jackson, and that's exactly what this performance displayed. I likes.

Love the song.

Yikes! Gwen's voice has definitely seen better days.

American Idol Recap: Adam Lambert Slays The Competition With 'Rock & Roll'

5/06/2009 0
Rock & Roll, was the task at hand, for the Top 4 on last night's episode of 'American Idol'.

The final four contestants took the stage to give their best shot at the genre and even teamed up in groups of two, to deliver some smoking duets, under the assistance of this week's mentor Slash.

Adam Lambert - "Whole Lotta Love"
Its pretty much known that Adam Lambert and rock, go together like macaroni and cheese, so it was pretty safe to assume that the rocker would deliver and that's exactly what he did. Randy, said this is exactly the type of record he should record, Kara, called him a "rock god", Paula, deemed the performance "perfect", and Simon, stated no one would top his performance, and on this rare occasion, I completely agree with all the judges.

Allison Iraheta - "Cry Baby"
Allison chose a Janis Joplin classic, which as Simon pointed out, took a strong likening to the original version, which led to a feisty rant from the songstress. Still, all in all, she sounded great and it was my personal favorite performance from her, because she actually had some youth appeal.

Kris Allen & Danny Gokey - "Renegade"
I thought the duets were pointless and ultimately unfair since they chose to put the two rockers together, instead of splitting them up like it should have been done. That said, the duo sounded strong in unison and did a pretty good job with a genre that obviously isn't their strong suit.

Kris Allen - "Come Together"
The good thing about Kris is that he clearly knows who he is as an artist and chooses songs that fit within his range. I loved the performance and thought it was extremely strong, especially given Rock isn't his main suit, but unfortunately the judges didn't agree.

Danny Gokey - "Dream On"
"Dream On", is one of the best rock songs ever, and the first part of the performance was killer, but his bid to put a rock influence on his soulful voice towards the end, was a complete and utter disaster. Simon thought the performance was "like watching a horror movie" and based on that last note, I have to agree.

Adam Lambert & Allison Iraheta - "Slow Ride"
Adam and Allison together is a no brainer and just as expected the performance was great, which led to Kara calling them a "rock God and rock Goddess". Simon even thinks Adam may have helped Allison stay in the competition a week longer.

PREDICTIONS:
Bottom 2: Based on the performances, Allison and Danny, but taking the judges comments in, Kris will likely replace Danny.

Who's Going Home: Allison, should finally hit the highway this week, but Simon's comments may have led Kris to that road instead.

American Idol Recap: Matt Giraud Can't Be Saved, Plus Taylor Hicks, Natalie Cole & Jamie Foxx

5/02/2009 0
There was no saving Matt Giraud this time on "American Idol."

The 23-year-old dueling piano player from Kalamazoo, Mich., was rescued by the show's judges two weeks ago. But on Wednesday it was revealed that he received the fewest viewer votes on the Fox singing competition — just beneath this season's most formidable front-runner.

"I'll definitely remember being the cat with nine lives up here," Giraud said after his dismissal.

At the start of the show, host Ryan Seacrest split the finalists: Giraud and Kris Allen on one side, Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta on the other. Seacrest then allowed seemingly unstoppable Adam Lambert to choose which group he belonged in. Lambert picked Gokey and Iraheta, but Seacrest dropped a bomb: Lambert was in the bottom three with Giraud and Allen.

The drama was extended after Seacrest sent Allen to safety, leaving Lambert and Giraud as the bottom two vote-getters. While the judges were split on Tuesday's "Rat Pack"-themed show over Giraud's "My Funny Valentine" rendition, they all agreed that 27-year-old theater actor Lambert's "Feeling Good" performance left them feeling, well, really good.

The Lambert alarm was all for naught, though. Giraud was sent packing.

In addition, to the results, Season5 winner Taylor Hicks returned to perform his new single, "Seven Mile Breakdown", legend Natalie Cole performed "Something's Gotta Give", and mentor Jamie Foxx delivered an unprofessional and inappropriate performance of his No.1 hit, "Blame It":

American Idol Recap: Final 5 Take On The 'Rat Pack' Era

4/29/2009 0
The Top 5 contestants vying to be the next American Idol, took to the stage last night to take on Idol’s Rat Pack theme week.

While this theme has normally set the standard for who really has the strength to go the distance, this time around Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, Matt Giraud, and Adam Lambert, all came out swinging and giving their best attempts at the bluesy, soulful sounds of big band.

Academy Award winner and Grammy nominee Jamie Foxx served as mentor for the final five, and surprisingly he made a great impact.

Kris Allen - 'The Way You Look Tonight"
When I heard Kris was singing, "The Way You Look Tonight", I immediately knew he would take to the task with ease, because the song's overall vibe just fits right in with the magical tenderness of his voice. As Jamie said, Kris wasn't trying to do the "throat Olympics", but instead just delivered a stunningly controlled and enjoyable performance.

Allison Iraheta - "Someone To Watch Over Me"
The last girl standing in the competition Allison, chose a big song and delivered her big vocals to make it a matching pair. The performance was controlled and she was pitch perfect as her raspy voice covered the track. It was just incredible. That said, I've never denied Allison's talent and I'm not going to start now, but I will end by saying she's my least favorite contestant in the competition.

Matt Giraud - "My Funny Valentine"
There's no question that Matt Giraud picked the hardest and most known song to sing, and fortunately he delivered. I wouldn't quite goes as far as Simon by calling the performance "brilliant", but I do think unlike the first two performances, it felt like he genuinely enjoyed performing his selection and that the music was just perfect for him.

Danny Gokey - "Come Rain Or Come Shine"
Danny is the sole contestant in the competition that has yet to deliver a vocally unimpressive performance and he broke the barriers of his past performances this week. It was just a match made in heaven, and finally you got a sense of star quality from Danny. As the judges said, it was just "outstanding", "stellar", "unbelievable" and hands down his best performance.

Adam Lambert - "Feeling Good"
For me, it is always either or, when it comes to Adam's performances, but this week he rocked it. There's just no denying his creativity and originality, but with that said, I still think Broadway would just be a better fit for him than the recording industry.

PREDICTIONS:
Bottom 2: Hard decision, but Allison and Matt.

Who's Going Home: Allison.

American Idol Recap: Lil Rounds & Anoop Desai Are Sent Packing, While David Archuleta Returns

4/24/2009 0
'American Idol' finalists Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai aren't closer to becoming household names. Both singers were dismissed Wednesday after it was revealed they received the fewest number of viewer votes on the popular Fox singing competition.

The third lowest vote-getter after this week's disco-themed performances was Allison Iraheta.

For the past several weeks, the judges have not been favorable to Rounds, the 24-year-old mother of three from Memphis, or Desai, the 22-year-old college student from Chapel Hill, N.C.

While the panel seemed to prefer Desai's rendition of Donna Summers' "Dim All the Lights," judge Simon Cowell called Rounds' performance of Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman" a "mess."

"I'm actually going to miss your family screaming at us every week," Cowell told after Rounds after she was eliminated.

The acerbic judge correctly predicted Rounds would be dismissed following her performance Tuesday, as did Celebrity Bug. The once adored R&B crooner, who originally wowed the panel with Stevie Wonder's "All I Do" at her audition, had been dubbed a copycat by the judges for the past several weeks. Desai had also fallen from grace after being selected as the judges' final wild card pick.

Two finalists were sent packing Wednesday, instead of the usual one, because the judges' used their new one-time-only power to save Matt Giraud from elimination last week.

The five singers remaining in the competition are Iraheta, Giraud, Kris Allen, Danny Goeky and Adam Lambert.

In addition to the results, last year's winner-up David Archuleta returned to perform his latest single, "Touch of My Hand":

American Idol Recap: Adam Lambert & Kris Allen Make Disco Shiny, Lil Rounds Dishes Up Her Last Round

4/22/2009 0
The Top 7 contestants vying to be the next American Idol, took to the stage last night to boogie to the sounds of Disco.

The stakes were at an all time high, due to the judges saving Matt Giraud from elimination, which will cause two contestants to be outed from the competition tonight.

The problem for most contestants when it comes to Disco is that the songs just genuinely come off with karaoke feel, so it was crucial that the contestants change up the songs enough to make them feel genuine.

Lil Rounds - "I'm Every Woman"
Lil Rounds immediately went into the night with a couple of set backs, first she barely escaped elimination last week and lastly she's the first performance out of the gate, so to survive she needed to deliver a killer performance. Let me start by saying the performance was one of her personal best, which proves just how mediocre the rest have been, but ultimately, it still wasn't enough. She had some nice vocal moments and she did managed to get the crowd hype, but it was missing the key ingredient of originality.

Kris Allen - "She Works Hard For The Money"
Unlike Lil Rounds, Kris Allen knows all about originality and this performance single handily proved that. No cheesy gimmicks, just a straight forward performance that was absolutely fantastic.

Danny Gokey - "September"
As I've said week end and week out, Danny's voice just puts him in the position of being able to sing any and everything, and do it justice. That said, my problem with Danny, which Simon confirmed, is that he just doesn't enough star quality.

Allison Iraheta - "Hot Stuff"
The song's title pretty much describes the performance. Allison has proved she can sing, but her problem is that she just comes across to old and it makes it hard to like her. Great performance, all the same.

Adam Lambert - "If I Can't Have You"
I don't even need to go into detail, because one word describes it all.....BRILLIANT!

Matt Giraud - "Staying Alive"
Aside from the song choice, which took the word cheesy to a new level, the vocals and the arrangement were a complete and utter train wreck. I've been a avid fan of Matt, but this performance kind of proved that maybe the judges should have saved their save.

Anoop Desai - "Dim All the Lights"
Simon called the performance, "mediocore at best", and sadly I have to reaffirm his thoughts, especially that last note. That said, it was definitely not his worst performance ("Beat It", "Caught Up").

PREDICTIONS:
Bottom 3: Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, and Anoop Desai.

Which 2 Are Going Home: Truth be told, Lil Rounds delivered the best performance out of the three, but her past history of bad performances and being in the dreaded first slot, will ultimately send her packing with Matt Giraud.

American Idol Recap: Matt Giraud Is Greenlighted A Sequel, Jennifer Hudson Returns & Miley Cyrus Performs

4/16/2009 0
Matt Giraud, the 23-year-old piano player from Kalamazoo, Mich., who crooned Bryan Adam's "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" from "Don Juan DeMarco" for his movie song performance Tuesday, received the fewest number of viewer votes Wednesday on the popular Fox singing competition. However, the judges decided to use their one-time power to save him from elimination.

"'Idol' history has been made!" host Ryan Seacrest exclaimed following the salvation.

With the other three judges excitedly gathered around him, Simon Cowell seemed to be foreshadowing Giraud's exit by telling him that his last-chance performance was not as "good as you were last night" and that Giraud did not "really have any chance of winning the competition." But Cowell relented and delivered Giraud's good news - and then some bad news.

"I wouldn't be so quick to congratulate him," he prattled as the other singers huddled around Giraud.

Cowell said because Giraud was rescued this week, two finalists will be dismissed after next week's disco-themed performances, as stipulated by the new rule introduced this earlier season.

As Celebrity Bug predicted, 24-year-old mother of three Lil Rounds from Memphis, Tenn., and 22-year-old college student Anoop Desai from Chapel Hill, N.C., joined Giraud in the bottom three.

In addition to the results, Jennifer Hudson returned to the stage for the first time since her elmination in Season 3, to perform her latest single, "If This Isn't Love", while Miley Cyrus performed her hit, "The Climb".

American Idol Recap: Allison Gets Judges' Praise, The Clock Is Ticking For Lil

4/15/2009 0
The Top 7 contestants vying to be the next American Idol, took to the stage last night to perform music from the movies.

Due to the eight minute time overage last week, the judges were only allowed to judge in pairs (Simon and Paula, Randy and Kara), and the contestants were mentored under the direction of Quentin Tarantino.

Allison Iraheta - "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing"
I've often thought that the Diane Warren penned, "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing", by Aerosmith, is one of the most beautifully written tracks ever, so when I found out rocker Allison was singing the track, I immediately felt a sense of dismay and rightfully so. Although she hits the notes, I felt she tried to do too much with it and messed up the beautiful simplicity of the song. The rock vibe, for me, just didn't match the track, but Team Cowell-Abdul love it and Simon even said that she's the only girl in the competition that really truly has a shot at winning, which I can fully reaffirm.

Anoop Desai - "Everything I Do"
Anoop chose the classic big ballad by Bryan Adams and surprisingly, he pulled it off with his emotionally driven vocals. As I previously stated, ballads are Anoop's strong suit, which is my problem with Anoop, because if you're a singer thats only capable of delivering on these types of performances, then it makes you come off extremely one dimensional. That said, a nice performance from Anoop this week.

Adam Lambert - "Born To Be Wild"
The thing that I like about Adam is that he offers variation, given his performances from week to week, whether disaster or not, all stand on their own as a different one of the elements he brings to the table, which is something I can't state about any other contestant. That said, when it comes to him, his performances are pretty much hit or miss, and as Simon stated, "half will like it, half will hate it". Unfortunately, I lay within the second half.

Matt Giraud - "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman"
When it comes to Matt, the judges and I tend to be on different pages, but this week sort of slightly reunited us. He picked a really hard song to sing and taking that into consideration he did a pretty good job trying to pull it off, but it was by no means a perfect vocal. That said, what united my thoughts with the judges is that I felt, as Kara said, that him trying to flip the song into a solely R&B number, neglected to capature some of the songs key moments.

Danny Gokey - "Endless Love"
Week after week, Danny continues to prove just how vocally amazing he is, and despite starting out on shaky ground, he found his stride and delivered. Again, like I been pointing out for weeks, Danny does tend to be kind of boring, which Simon bought attention to, and we all know just being a great singer can only take you so far in a competition like this.

Kris Allen - "Falling Slowly"
Kris' performance split Team Jackson-Dioguardi, given Randy thought it was pitchy from note one and Kara deemed it one of his best moments, while I can't completely reaffirm either of their comments, I did think it was a solid showing, not bad, not great, but somewhere in between.

Lil Rounds - "The Rose"
Bad decision after bad decision, mistake after mistake, is how Lil's weeks have played out over the competition. I admire her for trying to spin the song, as opposed to last week, but the performance just didn't work. The first part was almost unbearable, given she was pitchy beyond belief, and even though the latter part was better, it was a far cry away from saving the performance.

PREDICTIONS:
Bottom 3: I think Allison, Lil, and Adam, are the contestants that truly deserve to be in the bottom three, but Matt and Anoop, will most likely join Lil, based on America's votes.

Who's Going Home: Lil Rounds, is the sole contestant that has yet to deliver a great performance during the finals. She's a gifted talented, but she doesn't have a complete grasp of who she is, and frankly we're tired of trying to watch her figure it out.

American Idol Recap: Scott MacIntyre Is Done, Flo Rida Performs & Kelly Pickler Returns

4/09/2009 0
After much clamoring from the judges, the competition is over for Scott MacIntyre on "American Idol." The 23-year-old piano player from Scottsdale, Ariz., who crooned Survivor's "The Search is Over" in hopes of being saved by the judges, received the fewest number of viewer votes Wednesday on the popular Fox singing competition.

"This is really tough," judge Simon Cowell said after MacIntyre reprised his performance sans electric guitar. "I really, really like you, Scott. I'm looking over there, and I think there's a bunch of talented singers. This decision isn't just based on you. It's whether I think, or we think, someone is more talented over there. This is the problem."

"I know I can please you another week, Simon," MacIntyre said.

The judges decided not to rescue MacIntyre. Joining him as the bottom three vote-getters were 24-year-old mother of three Lil Rounds from Memphis, Tenn., and 22-year-old college student Anoop Desai from Chapel Hill, N.C., both of whom Celebrity Bug predicted.

"Idol" host Ryan Seacrest said only 30,000 of the 34 million viewer votes cast this week separated MacIntyre from Desai.

In addition to the results, rapper Flo-Rida hit the stage to perform her latest hit, "Right Round", which hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. As did, former contestant American Idol Kellie Pickler, who performed her single, "Best Days of Your Life".

American Idol Recap: Adam Lambert Strikes "Brilliance", Lil' Rounds Continues To Disappoint

4/08/2009 0
The Top 8 contestants vying to be the next American Idol, took to the stage last night to perform songs from the year they were born.

With the theme, once again, featuring a wide range of songs, this too should have been another strikingly easy week for the contestants, but in many cases, proved to be the exact opposite.

Danny Gokey - "Stand By Me"
Danny has pretty much proven that the magic that lays within his voice is just raw and rich, and that it doesn't really matter what song he chooses, because he's going to sing it great regardless. My only problem with Danny is that I still can't see him making a splash on the music scene, like past Idol winners David Cook or Carrie Underwood, but more along the lines of Taylor Hicks, who ultimately ended up being dropped from the label that represents American Idol winners.

Kris Allen - "All She Wants To Do Is Dance"
As Paula pointed out, Kris is definitely one of the most likable contestants on the show and, unlike Danny, I can see him joining the ranks of past successful Idols. That said, despite him singing it well, song choice counts for a lot and to put it simply, his choice sucked.

Lil' Rounds - "What's Love Got To Do With It"
Watching Lil' Rounds' performance of, "What's Love Got To Do With It", made me feel like I was watching Angela Basset in the movie of the same titled. Everything about the performance from the arrangement, her walk, facial expressions, and even her outfit were the very essence of the original Tina Turner version. She is a great singer, but she's really struggling to make the transition from good singer to viable artist, and unfortunately she's running out of chances.

Anoop Desai - "True Colors"
Like I said last week, ballads are what allow Anoop's voice to truly shine and this performance single handily proved that. His vocals were tender and his emotional delivery helped sell the song.

Scott MacIntyre - "The Search Is Over"
Let me start by giving Scott praise for stepping away from the piano, because although it proved he's best behind the piano, it was a much needed and welcomed change. That said, the problem was that the song was way too big for his flaccid voice, it was screechy and the song along with the vocals were never completely in sync. Like Randy said, everything about Scott is just okay and he never succeeds in serving up anything that screams 'WOW'.

Allison Iraheta - "Can't Make You Love Me"
I can't say I liked this performance and let me tell you why, because although vocally this performance was just magnificent, it was also extremely old-fashioned and that's where the problem comes in. Her old habits make it extremely hard for her target audience to be able to relate to her, which is why she's often found herself in the bottom three. I'm all for knowing who you are as an artist, but at the same time, you have to establish that connection that will turn you into a viable artist that can move units, and that's currently the piece of the puzzle that Allison is missing.

Matt Giraud - "Part-Time Lovers"
Despite garnishing praise from the judges, Matt's performance was not nearly as endearing as they made it seem. He suffered pitch problems and for the first time his soulful riffs and falsetto seemed extremely forced. Lastly, once again he is bouncing back and forth from what he wants, what the judges want, and not paying nearly enough attention to what America wants. (Note: During Motown week, the judges like it and he was in the bottom three, while last week, the judges didn't like it and he wasn't. Just a thought.)

Adam Lambert - "Mad World"
I've been really hard on Adam, mainly because he's just so damn strange, but this performance was just sheer brilliance, or as close as an American Idol performance can get to it. From his haunting falsetto to his dreamy full voice, this performance along with Motown week, have shown that the laid back performances are his most compelling. It seemed effortless and got a standing ovation for every single judge including Simon.

PREDICTIONS:
Bottom 3: This is a tough week for predictions, but ultimately, I think Lil' Rounds, Matt Giraud, and Scott MacIntyre will camp it out amongst the lowest vote-getters. Still, there are other factors that could influence a change, such as, Allison's old-fashioned ways or Anoop's bland showing, could result in them battling it out for Matt's spot.

Who's Going Home: Scott MacIntyre has been deserving the boot for a few weeks now, but America has given Lil a few too many chances, so either or.
