'Fifty Shades of Grey', starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, owned the box-office over the weekend with over sixty percent of moviegoers opting to see E.L. James' raunchy novel play out on the big screen. The film, which cost about $40 million to make, shattered February records with a $93 million opening in the United States and $266.6 million worldwide.

It took in $85.17 million over the first three days and not only did it destroy weekend records for Valentine's Day and Presidents Day, but the film has also became the highest February debut ever, replacing 'Passion of the Christ', which raked in a robust $83.9 million in 2004.

Internationally, the film also played well with a massive $173.6 million from 58 territories, which saw it open at No.1 in 54 locations and set records in 13 of those. Get more details beneath:

'Fifty Shades' Hits $93M Over Four-Days; Final B.O. Actuals

Rentrak has reported box office actuals for Presidents Day weekend of February 13-16 with Universal Focus Features’ Fifty Shades Of Grey coming in a hair higher with a 3-day of $85.17M, and a slightly lower four-day of $93M. Among R-rated 3-day openings, Fifty Shades owns the fourth best of all-time, with 2003’s Matrix Reloaded still tops with $91.77M, and as mentioned previously, the feature adaptation of E.L. James bestselling novel is the top opening ever for a February release. 20th Century Fox’s Kingsman: Secret Service maintains its $36.2M three-day, but is slightly below its 4-day prediction yesterday with an actual of $41.76M. Final total tickets sales to date for 2015 for the period of January 1-February 16 is $1.489B, +10% over the same frame in 2014. Total four-day domestic weekend tally: $246.16M, still an all-time record for the holiday, that +18% over the same four-day frame a year ago.

It’s still the biggest February opener overseas of all-time and the second best for Universal behind Fast & Furious 6‘s $160.3M overseas bow. The E.L. 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Stars: Jamie Dornan Gets Intense On Sexy 'Details' Cover, Dakota Johnson Lands First 'Vogue' Cover

2/01/2015 0
With 'Fifty Shades of Grey' due in theaters in less than two weeks, actor Jamie Dornan, who plays Christian Grey in the R-rated flick, covers for the February 2015 issue of Details, where he shares his fears of how fans will react to him playing the character.

Based on the first book of E. L. James' popular romance novel trilogy, the film sees the 32-year-old actor's character, a mysterious billionaire in his 20s, romances innocent young Anastasia Steele, played by Dakota Johnson, and teaches her all about sex and specifically his secret passion, BDSM.

"I almost don't want to put this out there into the ether, but I fear I'll get murdered, like John Lennon, by one of those mad fans at the premiere," Dornan revealed to the publication.

"Because a lot of people are very angry that I'm playing this character. And I'm a father now, and a husband. I don't want to die yet. And when I do get murdered," he continued. "People will say, 'God, isn't it haunting how he did that interview in Details magazine and predicted his own death on the red carpet?'" Rising stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson get into character as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, from the book phenomenon 'Fifty Shades of Grey', on the sexy November 22nd, 2013 cover of Entertainment Weekly.

In the upcoming film adaptation, which will hit theaters on February 13, 2015, the little known stars will play the kinky billionaire and the naive college who falls for him, and in the new issue, they open up about preparing for the intense sex scenes.

For Johnson, who dyed her hair brown, that will include trips to the gym. "Obviously, I want to look good naked," she says. "I totally understand now why people exercise, because it kind of fucking feels awesome." Meanwhile, Dornan, who has modeled for Calvin Klein, the sex scenes isn't as big of a deal for him as the trilogy's fans.

"I'm a fairly worldly guy," Dornan said. "I grew up in a very liberal place. I'm not saying we had a playroom, but I'm not shocked by [the sex in the book]. It's essential to tell the story. I can't believe films that don't invoke the sexual side of it. So it works for me."
