Super Bowl LIV: Jennifer Lopez & Shakira Deliver Dazzling Spectacle

2/03/2020 0

After two consecutive halftime disasters (see: Justin Timberlake in 2018 and Maroon 5 in 2019), the pressure was on Jennifer Lopez and Shakira to restore order and make the Pepsi Halftime Show enjoyable again and they did not disappoint.

The Latinas had us dancing the night away as they breezed through some of their many hits, paid a subtle tribute to Kobe Bryant and even got a little political (see: the kids in cages moment). It was everything a halftime show should be: fun, entertaining and inspiring. Watch it below:

Super Bowl LIII: New England Patriots Defeat Los Angeles Rams

2/03/2019 0

A Super Bowl LIII champion has been crowned! In a low-scoring matchup that lived up to expectations, the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 to take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy in Atlanta, Georgia.

“We fought through it more than anything. It’s unbelievable to win this game,” quarterback Tom Brady told reporters after the game. Asking if a win means imminent retirement for Brady, the oldest quarterback to win the title asserted “it doesn’t change anything.”

It’s been 17 years since the two teams shared the biggest stage in sports at Super Bowl XXXVI, and that stunning game would see the Patriots squeeze out a 20-17 victory over the Rams (then based in St. Louis) to earn quarterback Brady and coach Bill Belichick their first Super Bowl title. The Rams and Patriots matchup was the second Super Bowl rematch in a row for New England, who lost to the Philadelphia Eagles last year in a rematch of the 2004.

Justin Timberlake To Perform At 2018 Super Bowl Halftime Show

10/23/2017 0

After much speculation, Justin Timberlake has been confirmed to headline the Super Bowl LII Pepsi Halftime Show on February 4th, 2018 in Minneapolis.

It will mark the singer's third overall appearance on the NFL's biggest stage. His last appearance came in 2004, when he accidentally removed a piece of headliner Janet Jackson's wardrobe ensemble and created a controversy that some believe she still hasn't fully recovered from - hence #JusticeForJane trending on Twitter last night.

Before that, the 10x-Grammy winner had participated in the halftime show back in 2001, when he appeared as part of *NSYNC during Aerosmith's headlining appearance. Whether this is just another example of white privilege prevailing at the expense of a minority or not, I'm sure that he will give a commanding performance.

Super Bowl LI: Tom Brady Leads Patriots To Fifth Win In Overtime Thriller

2/06/2017 0

New England Patriot quarterback Tom Brady mounted the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history and cemented his position as the greatest quarterback ever with 34-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Read details of the team's historic victory beneath:

Tom Brady Leads Greatest Comeback In Super Bowl History

Down 25 points in the third quarter, Brady delivered the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history on Sunday, befitting of his status as greatest quarterback of all time.

New England, down and almost out against Atlanta in the third quarter, stormed back to force overtime and then won their fifth Super Bowl, 34-28. Brady captured his fourth Super Bowl MVP award by throwing for 466 yards and two touchdowns.

Brady and company officially claimed the Lombardi Trophy after James White capped the Patriots’ overtime drive with a 2-yard touchdown run, ending an eight-play, 75-yard drive against a gassed Falcons defense.

“It was unbelievable,” Brady said afterward. By rule, a team scoring a touchdown on the first possession of overtime is the winner. Atlanta never got the ball.

The victory will go down as arguably the sweetest in Patriots lore, as team owner Robert Kraft said as much in the postgame celebration as he received the championship trophy from commissioner Roger Goodell, a ceremony that was equally loud in cheers for the champs and boos for the league commish.

“A lot has transpired over the last two years”, Kraft said, obviously talking about deflate-gate. “I don’t think that needs any explanation.”

The win was historic in nature.

Comparatively unknown, yet undaunted, the Falcons jumped New England and appeared to be cruising to the franchise’s first Lombardi.

With speedy playmakers on both sides of the ball, the Falcons ran the vaunted Patriots off the field early, jumping to leads of 21-0 and 28-3 in what looked to be an unexpected rout. Previously no team that ever trailed by more than 10 points in a Super Bowl had come back to win.

Yet Tom Brady and the Pats refused to quit.

Facing the kind of massive second-half deficit that in the past has caused so many Super Bowl teams to quit and face a blowout, the Pats bucked up, with Brady visibly working the sideline, shouting at his teammates to keep fighting.

There was a Brady to James White 5-yard touchdown pass. Then there was a Stephen Gostkowski field goal. Then, after a strip sack by Donte Hightower of Matt Ryan set the Pats up deep in Atlanta territory, Brady hit Danny Amendola for a 6-yard touchdown. They then converted the two-point conversion.

With less than three minutes left, Brady, trailing 28-20, led an epic 91-yard touchdown drive that will rank among the most astounding in league history.

“He was the same as he always is – cool, calm and collected,” said Patriots receiver Danny Amendola. “He’s the leader, the general, the best ever and that is the end of the story.”

They moved the chains on an out to Chris Hogan and then another to Malcolm Mitchell. Then Julian Edelman caught a wild one after a deflection that was the Patriots’ answer to the old helmet catch that once did them in. That one went to 28. Three plays later James White scored on a 1-yard run. Then Brady hit Amendola for the tying two-point conversion.

White finished with 14 receptions for 110 yards and totaled three touchdowns, one receiving and two rushing, one of which made the Patriots champions.

The story of the victory will be retold for generations in New England. The story of the collapse will be mourned for just as long in Georgia.

Super Bowl XLIX: Katy Perry Delivers A Flashy, Yet Forgettable Halftime Show With Lenny Kravitz & Missy Elliott

2/01/2015 0
Katy Perry : Super Bowl XLIX photo katy-missy-super-bowl-49.jpg

Following in the footsteps of spectacular shows from Bruno Mars, Beyoncé and Madonna, pop superstar Katy Perry stepped in as headliner of the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, February 1st.

The 30-year-old entered the stadium on a giant mechanical lion to "Roar", before transitioning into "Dark Horse", rocking out with Lenny Kravitz to "I Kissed A Girl" and turning the set into a beach environment for "Teenage Dream" and "California Girls". Next, Missy Elliott, in a not so surprise appearance, performed three of her hits ("Get Ur Freak On", "Work It" and "Lose Control") and Perry closed the show with "Firework" as the sky filled up with fireworks.

The production and set was eye catching to say the least, but the execution from Perry, who lipped the entire show and can't dance to save her life, missed the marked and made the entire spectacle underwhelming, especially in comparison to the last three halftime shows. It was all bark (gimmicks) and no bite (substance), and the most memorable segment came from Elliott, who towered over Perry in terms of stage presence. Watch the halftime performance beneath:

Prior to his performance at the 2014 Super Bowl Halftime Show, there was a lot of talk that Bruno Mars, who only has two albums under his belt, had yet to prove himself as an artist that could stand the test of time, but the crooner silenced those critics in the best way possible - by unleashing one hell of a performance.

The new superstar started his performance with a children's choir and a drum solo, before venturing into "Locked Out of Heaven", "Treasure", "Runaway Baby", "Give It Away" with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the closer "Just the Way You Are", which was used to honor army families. 14x-Grammy-winning songstress Alicia Keys performs a stripped down version of "The Star Spangled Banner", during the 2013 Super Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday, February 3rd, in New Orleans.
