'Shots Fired': Event Series Starring Sanaa Lathan Beefs Up Cast With 4 Veterans

3/23/2016 0

The racially-charged FOX event series, 'Shots Fired', that reteams Sanaa Lathan with her 'Love & Basketball' filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood is shaping up quite nicely with four veteran actors including two Oscar winners recently joining the cast in pivotal roles.

Slated to debut later this year, it examines the aftermath of racially charged shootings in a small town in North Carolina with Lathan portraying an expert investigator who digs into the case.

Oscar winner Helen Hunt has signed a one season deal as Patricia Eamons, the fictional governor of North Carolina, while fellow Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss will play Arlen Cox, a real estate mogul and owner of a privatized prison who is intricately involved in the shootings.

Additionally, 'True Blood' alum Stephen Moyer has joined as Officer Breeland, a seasoned veteran in the town’s Sheriff’s Department, and Will Patton will take on the role of Sheriff Daniel Platt, whose precinct is investigated after the shooting. This certainly sounds like a winner!!!

Halle Berry Agrees To Cancel 'Extant'; Readies New Legal Drama For CBS

10/12/2015 0
 photo 150630-news-extant.jpg

After two seasons and a creative revamp, CBS and Halle Berry has pulled the plug on the sci-fi drama series 'Extant' and simultaneously put into development 'Legalease', a legal drama that the Oscar winner will executive produce (and possibly star in).

"CBS, Halle Berry and the producers have decided to conclude the Extant story after last season’s exciting and fitting conclusion," said Glenn Geller, President of CBS Entertainment. "Extant played an important role in expanding CBS’ lineup of original scripted programming in the summer. We are proud of the show’s success on the network, as well as its popularity on Amazon Prime Video. We also want to thank the incomparable Halle Berry for her commitment and support for the series and look forward to working with her on our next project together."

Berry, who will next be seen on the big screen in 'Kidnap', echoed his statement saying, "I am so proud of what we accomplished on Extant. This season seemed such a natural place to end Molly’s journey that I, along with CBS, felt it best served the story to leave it there. ‎It was my first foray into episodic television, and I’m excited to continue my relationship with CBS, producing more compelling stories through my 606 Films production banner."

As for 'Legalease', the projetc, written by Steven Lichtman, centers on a biracial lawyer from Chicago who follows a case to New Orleans, where she finds herself partnering with a good ol’ boy white attorney while working in a very particular justice system that will ultimately expose the biases we all harbor. Berry is currently just set to produce, but it sounds like perfect fit for her.

Eva Longoria Gets Beautiful & Political For 'Latina' Magazine

9/07/2014 0
Eva Longoria : Latina (October 2014) photo gxl_53fe1a0f-3908-4a26-a3be-7a620a771fd0.jpg

Eva Longoria has proven to be more than just a pretty face and in the October 2014 issue of Latina, the 39-year-old star dishes on being a humanitarian, a speaking voice for her people in politics and her latest film and television projects.

Since her role in the smash television series 'Desperate Housewives' came to an end in 2012, the actress has spent more time behind the scenes as a producer of 'Devious Maids' and a slew of other series in the works, but that will change soon, given she has signed on for a three-episode arc on the Golden Globe-winning series 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine'. Read excerpts beneath:

On Her Career Aspirations:
"People go, ‘How does it feel to be so successful?’ and I always think, God, I haven’t even tapped into my potential as a human being. There’s so much more I want to do with my craft and with the industry I’m in. There’s so much more I can be and can do that I can’t wait until I evolve to the complete human being that I’m supposed to be."

On The Power Of Politics: "I think people go, ‘Oh, you like politics and politicians?’ And I say I don’t like politics and I don’t like politicians, but I love the political process. And I love how the most powerful person in the political process is the citizen."

On Immigration Debates & Her New Film, 'Frontera':
"Nothing angers me more than to see talking heads on TV who don’t know what they are talking about. You have to study the history of immigration and patterns in order to understand why this is happening right now. I just wish people would view this with a lens of compassion and at the same time education themselves on ignorant statements like, these people come here to suck dry our social services. That is not true."

Whitney Houston Biopic Set For Lifetime

5/25/2014 0
Over two years after her untimely death, Whitney Houston's remarkable career and headline-filled marriage to Bobby Brown is headed for the small screen with a Lifetime biopic in the works.

The more surprising news is that the project has been placed in the hands of her 'Waiting to Exhale' co-star Angela Bassett, who has no previous directing experience. Maybe it is just me, but I think Nippy's story and career are more deserving of the big screen and a acclaimed director. This upsets me.

Slated to be released in 2015, 'Whitney Houston' (working title), according to the release, will "chronicle the headline-making relationship between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model, and singer, songwriter Bobby Brown - from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their courtship and tumultuous marriage."

"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story," Bassett said of her upcoming directorial debut. "Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world." Sigh!!!
