While Lady GaGa had the honor of opening the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, her current chart rival Katy Perry still got the last word as she closed the annual music event with the very first live performance of her new single, "Roar".

Flaunting a box-theme (See: Jennifer Lopez At 2009 AMAs), the performance simply didn't pack enough of a punch and showed that while her single may be performing better, her rival remains the better performer. Watch her timid performance beneath:

Kanye West Dazzles 2013 VMAs With Haunting 'Blood On The Leaves' Performance

Kanye West : 2013 MTV Video Music Awards photo 300x169.jpg

There are rappers and then, there is Kanye West. A heavyweight that elevates the genre as an unparalleled innovator and creative force, a force that he fully utilized for his performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

Held at the Brooklyn's Barclays Center, he delivered a haunting and dark performance of "Blood on the Leaves", which samples Nina Simone's 1965 cover of Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" and stands as the best song on his No.1 album, 'Yeezus'.

The original 1939 recording dealt a lot with racism and the rise of lynchings, which he brilliantly depicted through his outing by using Steve McQueen's painting, "Lynching Tree", as his backdrop. Not a lot of people could pull of this performance (if any), but this is just one example of why West remains ahead of the class. Watch it beneath:

Whether you totally embrace Miley Cyrus' new image or completely hate it, there is absolutely no question that the 20-year-old delivered the most-shocking performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on August 25th.

It's pretty clear her goal was to be the most-talked star of the night and sorry Lady GaGa and Katy Perry, but mission accomplished. Watch the entire performance beneath:

Rising country star Luke Bryan just cemented his place as one of the genre's leading men as his fourth studio album, 'Crash My Party', makes a big debut on the Billboard 200 selling 528,000 copies in its first week of release.

That figure scores him the third-largest opening week of the year, only trailing musical superstar Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z with 'The 20/20 Experience' (968,000) and 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail' (slightly over 528,000), respectively.

On the Hot 100, Robin Thicke and his summer hit, "Blurred Lines", barely escape the claws of Katy Perry and her new single, "Roar", to spend its eleventh consecutive week at the summit. The song sold 557,000 downloads and beat the "Applause" (218,000), the new single by Lady GaGa in a landslide victory. Peep both top 10's beneath:

"When Winter’s Bone was getting nominated. I had only done indies, and suddenly I was introduced to this brand-new world where I didn’t feel like myself. I was in these weird gowns and listening to people talk about things I didn’t understand. And I remember reading that in the book and being like, Oh, my God, I know exactly what this feels like. I don’t know what it’s like to get ready for your death, but I do know what it’s like to be almost a puppet. And then when I was making the second film, I had become more acquainted with that world, and I think that’s something that Katniss experiences. She is different when she comes back. She does feel more comfortable in the Capitol; she understands the people more, and it’s not as eerie and scary and unfamiliar. She kind of knows how to work the system."

On the Paparazzi:
"If I were just your average 23-year-old girl and I called the police to say that there were strange men sleeping on my lawn and following me to Starbucks, they would leap into action. But because I am a famous person, well, sorry, ma’am, there’s nothing we can do. It makes no sense… I am just not OK with it. It’s as simple as that. I am just a normal girl and a human being, and I haven’t been in this long enough to feel like this is my new normal. I’m not going to find peace with it."

On Why She Chose Acting:
"I know it sounds so stupid, but it was kind of like I finally found something people were telling me I was good at, which I had never heard, ever. And that was a big reason why my parents let me do this. One time, my mom was on the phone with my dad, saying, 'We're paying for therapy and all this medication, and we don't need it when she's here. She's happy.'"
